Why I think AI will dominate the world
Artificial Intelligence will control us pretty easily because we are so dependent on the devices these days. We have become so dependent on the social media and the virtual world, even more after the pandemic situation. Our classes, our shopping, food, entertainment, friends, sports and any aspect of life we can think of is now all available in our phones. The communities and communications we have which used to be much personal and direct before are pretty soon going to be composed of an absolution of social media. I mean, it is good to be able to keep in touch with your friends and loved ones who are far away physically. It is even better to be able to know many people and do, learn many new things we wouldn't be able to just a decade ago. Majorly speaking there are more good things to talk about too but what I am more concerned about is that the social medias are created in such a way that it is easier for you to make you look or tell your story exactly the way you want it to be, no matter how unrealistic it actually is.
The very nature of humans is to want to be better. Our expectations never actually end. The technology and it's advanced has certainly reduced our attention span and the level of patience. We are the generation of people who could watch the entirety of 5 to 10 minutes of ads just to watch the damn movie or TV shows. The same us can't even stand the unskippable 5 second ads these days. Communication between the loved ones would be so limited just a decade ago but the bond, trust, love and patience was ever so deep. But these days, maybe it is due to the benefit of easy multiple choices over partners over the swipe of a finger, and accessibility of communication over a single tap, we seem kinda restless and paranoid if we don't get to have a conversation for even half a day or we start to hyperventilate if the streak is not maintained in snap. The people are being mentally isolated and depressed more because the level of expectations created by these fake personas has become so high, and the confidence over ownself has become so low. The clinginess has become a part of our trait and miscommunication and falling out of love has become so easy and simple.
We are setting ourselves up to the unrealistic expectations we have created for ourselves and the others and social medias are actually fulfilling those expectations (although virtually, as a fake persona) through the filters and the AR lenses. Whenever I'm myself scrolling through my insta, all I see is bunch of successful people, happy people, beautiful people, people who seem to be having the time of their lives. But are everyone actually that perfect? No we are not. We are so much additcted to show only our perfect 10% of the lives that everyone believes this to be the only spectrum of our lives. This 10% is the only thing we want to show, and want people to believe in, this 10% is the only part that fills the social media, this 10% is the part we can glorify through social media very easily. Because of this, people are enjoying themselves more in their phones than in their real lives too. Being the better version of yourself, away from the shame of crowd and the openness is much much better for this lazy, introverted generation of ours.
This also has made us so very unbelievably insecure about our real lives these days. With our ever growing dependence, more like an addiction; to these gadgets, In the near future, we ourselves will be slaving our lives away to help 'the machine' gain knowledge and control over our lives, even our governments. Because of the machines and our sheer dependence on them, we could possibly be throwing our advanced brain, which we will now want to use so very little, out of the window. We don't even want to do simple maths calculations these days because calculator is always in our pockets. Think about the time when you literally remembered an entire phonebook for your friends' and family's phone numbers. Can you hardly remember any other numbers than your own and couple of your immediate close ones now? We can't wake up without the sound of the alarm anymore, we don't want to walk a couple of blocks down just to have a snack or buy some groceries anymore, remembering facts and passwords and addresses and information is boring because we still have google to do it for us. Whether we like it or not, we are both physically, emotionally and even spiritually being dependant upon the devices these days. If the AI becomes as good as we want them to be, there is a high chance that they will take all the advantage of that fact. The irony, as well as the scary part is... This very article was half written by an AI just to prove you a point.
We are running out of energy and losing the ability to do so many things that we used to do easily. However, you clearly see that the age of machines are upon us. The devices that we have developed have been so smart and so powerful that they have actually outsmarted us. We humans have been so good at creating things so much smarter than us that we have effectively outsmarted ourselves. This is an undeniably scary thing to think about. The full responsibility of our lives, emotions, and even thought reinforcements depends upon these machines now. We have lost a lot of jobs, and sanity of the people because of this.. We are far more aware of the dangers of the machines now and embrace more advanced technology only because our survival is at risk. We accept it because we are going to be vulnerable without them. However, machines will definitely help us in saving the earth, the resources, our animals, our species even if we use them wisely.
The machines have made our lives better and easier. However, we are not at the point of controlling these machines at the moment. They are far away from us and eventually we will have to move on from this thing called the AI because human will always have the control over the machines. Yes, I believe in the AI future because I also believe in the efforts of the mankind. Robots are the next step of evolution and I believe it will happen because we have been working towards it for so long that I can't see it not happening. As long as we are aware of the risks and make sure we are controlling it, it will be fine.
(The last two paragraphs were written by the AI. Just have a look at this smirky bastard writing positive thing about itself in an article which was intended to bring about a dystopian thoughts and a mid-life crisis!!! Touché AI..... Touché. )
